PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Environmental & Engineering Consultant

Design environmental and safety systems to address air, water, and pressure vessel systems at Chemical Process Industry (CPI) sites and refineries. Recent projects have included:

* Moore and Associates Engineering - MAI | Project Scope $500K (Dec 2013 - Present)

As the Lead Professional Engineer of a project team of 4-6 field staff, led the planning, field work, remediation plans, ASME and API pressure relief designs, and equipment installation for clients including Sabic-IP (former GE Plastics), Valero Energy, Vanderbilt Chemical, and Country Mark Refinery. Project Scope: $500K

* Perma-Fix Environmental Solutions | Project Scope $2M (Apr 2012 - Feb 2013)

After developing medical isotope technology at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Washington State University, transferred the technology to a Perma-Fix engineering venture, allowing the company to enter an entirely new market. U.S. Patent Application 20140226773, filed Feb 2013.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATIONAL LABORATORY / U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY
Richland, WA | 1993 - 2012

Senior Research Engineer - Waste Treatment Plant Support Project | Project Scope $2M (Aug 2001 - Dec 2012)

For the Waste Treatment Plant Support Project (Bechtel National / URS Joint Venture), supported the preparation and completion of testing for the Waste Treatment Plant Pretreatment Ion Exchange facility. Completed testing and reporting relating to (1) verification of hydraulic performance of pipelines for non-Newtonian fluids, (2) ion exchange resin decontamination and throughput requirements, (3) and identifying operational issues. Developed thermodynamic data for modeling liquid and gas phase equilibria of nuclear tank waste. Employed best basis databases to model and select processes for pretreatment process envelopes.

Project Manager, Radioisotope Process Development | Project Scope $300K (Apr 2009 - Apr 2012)

Developed processes for producing the isotope, Technetium (Tc-99m), using neutron capture (Mo99) in various research reactors. Modeled neutron capture reactions to show the benefit over using Uranium fission approach. Conducted tests at a TRIGA reactor site and performed subsequent radiochemical separations. Developed commercial partner interests. Recognized by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for commercialization potential. PNNL RPT-59220, Rev 0, 2010.

Project Manager, Radiation Portal Monitor Projects (RPMP) | Project Scope $2M (Mar 2007 - Mar 2009)

Completed engineering and design for a number of Radiation Portal Monitor Projects (RPMPs), receiving a commendation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Domestic Nuclear Detection Office.

Project Manager, Americium (Am-241) Separations | Project Scope $7M (Jun 2006 - Mar 2007)

Supporting Oil Field Services Forum for Radiation Safety, developed radiochemical separations processes for the recovery of high purity americium from unused sealed sources. Separation processes included breaching, decladding, dissolution, precipitation and calcination processes. Conducted operations modeling, shielding calculations for hot cell and fume hood operation and radiological packaging design necessary for recovery of Americium (Am-241) from neutron sources. Oil Field Services clients included Halliburton and Baker Hughes Inc.

Project Manager, Produced Water Treatment |Project Scope $300K (Nov 2003 - Jan 2006)

Defined processes and flowsheets to remove contaminants such as mercury and arsenic from crude oil and produced water at the offshore wells in the Gulf of Thailand. Conducted laboratory tests. Scaled up the process with equipment vendors in order to conduct off-shore tests with the produced water. PNWD-3646 Rev 0, Jan 2006.

Principal Investigator, Mercury Separations | Project Scope $200K (Jan 2004 - Mar 2006)

Principal Investigator of Industrial Research & Development Projects to test, design and recommend advanced adsorbent materials for the removal of mercury from crude oil prior to refining. Responsible for proposal preparation, laboratory testing, reporting, and design recommendations. PNWD-3646 Rev 0, Jan 2006.

Senior Research Engineer IV - Engineered Systems Division (Apr 1996 - Mar 2002)

* Senior Engineer. Supported the DOE's Waste Disposal Team Readiness-to-Proceed for Tank Waste Remediation and Vitrification. Assessed project uncertainty, likelihood of meeting schedule dates, and process activities most at risk.

* Senior Engineer, Environmental Systems Testing. Developed systems engineering processes to design and test vitrification processes to stabilize dust, slurry and phosphoric waste streams.

* Senior Investigator to Laboratory Directed Research and Development for Water Treatment. Principal Investigator of Water Treatment Technologies. Co-Inventor on U.S. Patent "Methods for Producing Hydrogen (Bi) Sulfide and/or Removing Metals"
